Expanding our repertoire of information on the Mexican Official Standards that are within our Product Certification Body, today we will talk about NOM-133/2-SCFI-1999. Let’s get started!
To begin with, it is important to mention that, for the correct application of NOM-133/2-SCFI-1999, it is necessary to take into account the Procedures for certification and verification of products subject to compliance with Mexican official standards, competence of the Ministry of Economy (POLEVAS).
What is the scope of application of NOM-133/2-SCFI-1999?
This official Mexican standard applies to all children’s products known as strollers that are marketed within the territory of the United Mexican States.
The definition of stroller is found within this standard and is understood as: “A wheeled vehicle that, not being a toy, is used to transport infants or young children.”
The product subject to the application of this Mexican Official Standard is classified into 3 types, which are, but not limited to, the following:
- Folding cane
- Folding folding handle
- Foldable
What are the requirements for the certification of products within the scope of this standard?
- Service request from the Product Certification Body.
- Declaratory letter under oath stating that the sample submitted is representative of the product to be certified, or in its absence declare it in the Request for Services.
- Test report issued by a testing laboratory. This must have a maximum term of ninety calendar days from the date on which the interested party submits the request for certification.
- Front, side, back, top and bottom photographs of each of the products to be certified.
- Proof of current NOM-050-SCFI covering all models to be certified.
- Instructions and precautionary legends.
- You must indicate the type of stroller, number of wheels, among other details, consult with the OCP for the rest of the information required to carry out the certification process of your child product.
In case the models of the product to be certified are considered as a family, additional requirements must be entered.
For the initial certification, the one that includes the greatest number of accessories and/or parts added as model variants must be sent for testing, together with all its accessories installed in the walker itself, which must show compliance with the provisions of the Mexican Official Standard NOM-133/2-SCFl-1999.
What features and/or legends should the instructions include?
The instructions provided on the stroller, whether in the form of a package or booklet, should be easy to read and understand. These instructions shall clearly include assembly, maintenance, cleaning and operating instructions (including bending instructions).
Strollers designed for multiple occupants, where the sequence of loading and unloading is important to the stability of the stroller, should have instructions showing the recommended sequence for loading and unloading the occupants. Cautions should specify that the stroller may lose stability if the manufacturer’s instructions are not followed.
