Today we will be talking about the third part of the NOM-133/3-SCFI-1999 to complete the knowledge of the correct compliance of this Mexican Official Standard, which seeks to protect the safety of the little ones.
For the correct application of this standard, it is necessary to take into account the Procedures for the certification and verification of products subject to compliance with Mexican official standards, under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Economy (POLEVAS).
What is the scope of application of NOM-133/3-SCFI-1999?
This Mexican Official Standard establishes the safety specifications and test methods that must be complied with by infant pens and/or enclosures during their normal use, as well as the labeling requirements that must be met during their commercialization in Mexican territory.
These are classified in different forms, such as:
- Circular shape.
- Rectangular shape.
- Hexagonal shape.
- Others.
What are the requirements for the certification of products within the scope of NOM-133/3-SCFI-1999?
- Service request from the Product Certification Body.
- Declaratory letter under oath stating that the sample submitted is representative of the product to be certified, or in its absence declare it in the Request for Services.
- Test report issued by a testing laboratory. This must be issued no later than ninety calendar days after the date on which the interested party submits the application for certification.
- Front, side, back, top and bottom photographs of each of the products to be certified.
- Proof of current NOM-050-SCFI covering all models to be certified.
- Instructions and precautionary legends.
- You must indicate the type of pen or enclosure, materials of the structure and accessories among other details, consult with the OCP to know the rest of the information required to carry out the certification process of your child product.
In case the models of the product to be certified are considered as a family, additional requirements must be entered.
For the initial certification, the one that includes the greatest number of accessories and/or parts added as model variants must be submitted for testing, together with all its accessories installed in the enclosure and/or corral itself, which must show compliance with the provisions of the Mexican official standard NOM-133/3-SCFI/-1999.
What features and/or legends should the instructions include?
The product instructions subject to the application of this Mexican Official Standard must comply with the provisions established in NOM-050-SCFI-1994, and contain the following precautions inside or on an additional sheet, which must be displayed in a font at least one centimeter high:
“Never leave a child unsupervised.”
“Assemble the corral as indicated in the instructions.”
“Stop using the corral if it is damaged or broken.”
