Today we will be talking about NOM-029-ENER-2017, this Mexican Official Standard is responsible for regulating External Power Supplies FAE by its acronym, which we usually use to charge portable electronic devices. Let’s go straight to all the information
What is the purpose of this NOM-029-ENER-2017?
NOM-029-ENER-2017 aims to establish the minimum values of energy efficiency in operation, the maximum limits of electrical power in no-load or no-load mode and the specifications of the minimum information to be marked on external power supplies (referred to in this standard as FAE).
These FAEs should have a single electrical output voltage level and should not have an output power greater than 250 W.
Ranking
The FAEs that are within the scope of this standard are classified according to their rated electrical output voltage level and considering the type of connection to the end-use product.
- External USB output voltage power supplies
- External low output voltage power supplies
- External generic output voltage power supplies
What are the requirements to obtain the certificate of conformity for products within the scope of NOM-029-ENER-2017?
- Declaration under oath, whereby the interested party shall state that the product submitted for laboratory testing is representative of the family of products to be certified.
- Service request from the Product Certification Body.
- Original test report from an accredited and approved test laboratory.
- Technical specifications of the product or family of products that make up the certificate and for which the UBP is representative.
- Marking (Consult the OCP for all information necessary to comply with the marking of this standard).
- Energy efficiency label (Consult with the OCP for all the information necessary to comply with the marking of this standard).
- Instruction or user’s manual
- Photograph of the product to be certified.
Marking and labeling
All FAE covered by this standard must be legibly and indelibly marked on the body of the product or by means of a data plate, which must be attached or mechanically fastened to the enclosure or housing on the main body of the FAE and in a visible place, as well as the units in accordance with NOM-008-SCFI (in force).
The minimum information that our FAE must contain is:
- Manufacturer’s or distributor’s name, or logo or trademark
- Model or commercial identification designated by the manufacturer or distributor used for commercial identification
- Nominal electrical data of input voltage and frequency.
- Marking of energy efficiency level V or VI, in roman numerals; (as applicable)
- Rated electrical data of the electrical output voltage, electrical power and/or electrical output current.
Unlike the safety standards, this energy efficiency standard requires additional labeling, which must contain all the points indicated in the standard (consult the PCO for the characteristics of this labeling).
